If there’s one holiday skinny tip I can provide you, it’s to bring a healthy appetizer to your next gathering.

Most of the parties I attend have the typical appetizer spread with all the foods I love. Chips and dip, holiday cookies, little smoky sausages, pastry wrapped brie.

Need I say more?

It’s makes it difficult to get through the holidays with a minimum of weight gain, so I learned several years ago to bring an offering that makes me happy, and makes my hosts happy as well.

These 10 healthy appetizers top my list. I treat myself to a small plate of my healthier choice first, then pick a favorite treat to enjoy as well. I never feel deprived, and I manage to get through the holidays relatively weight gain free.

The recent typhoon in the Philippines has left the people and nation in devastation. Towns were flattened, 80,000 homes destroyed, an estimated 582,000 people left homeless and thousands passed on. An intense need for food, water, shelter, medical attention, and psychological care remain. These unimaginable numbers and needs leave us heartbroken and wondering how to help.

So, we are using the spirit of the holidays as a launching pad to bring our community together. In effort to simplify the season and make it more meaningful, we decided to minimize gifts for one another and host a cause. Last year was to support foster kids through a Seattle’s nonprofit, Treehouse. This year we are focusing internationally to help the Red Cross serve the Philippines.

We are excited to invite YOU, our friends, coworkers and communities to join us! Donate whatever you can, invite others to give, or pray if you’re into that. All of it matters and together we can help the Red Cross work in The Philippines.

    Great idea to bring an appetizer that you know is healthy and to your taste to gatherings like this. Too easy to load up on less healthy options, otherwise. Although, alas, I’d probably still do it – I have to sample everything!
