Crackers and chips are my go-to, feel good, food. I can’t keep them in the house because I’ll eat the whole package by myself.
No matter how you look at it, crackers aren’t low in calories. A serving of chips or crackers is typically 140 calories and over 7g of fat, and are usually loaded with preservatives and ingredients I can’t pronounce.
Foododelmundo’s crackers (click for recipe) are home baked crackers with ingredients I can pronounce, and they taste fantastic. A serving of 5 crackers will cost you 155 calories and 5.5g of fat.
I’m not professing that they are any less fattening than the crackers you would buy in the store, – just fresh baked, wholesome and delicious!
Foododelmundo topped his crackers with sesame seeds, poppy, fennel, and caraway. I used just a touch of garlic salt and fresh rosemary. My crackers were terrific topped with Lowfat Laughing Cow Cheese mixed with fat free feta. Snack attack satisfied!
Can’t beat that!
What’s good for me in this dish?
Whole wheat flour contains fiber, protein, niacin, vitamin B6 and several minerals. One of the biggest benefits of whole wheat flour over refined white flour is the boost in fiber. Most people don’t get enough fiber in their diet. Fiber is necessary to keep your digestive system functioning at its best.
Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat, a fat that provides health benefits such as reducing your risk of heart disease by reducing the bad cholesterol (LDL) levels in your blood. Olive oil can promote healthy digestion, protect against colon cancer, and it can act as an anti-inflammatory.
The recipe makes 38 crackers.
