When I said there’s still time, I wasn’t referring to grilling season. We grill year round in this house. The outdoor grill is under cover, and I have an indoor grill I use when I’m not in the mood to brave the colder weather.
I was referring to visits to your local farmers market. Here in Snohomish, most are open through October, then sadly they close their doors. I go into mourning every year when my addictive visits to the market come to an end. No more touching and smelling an amazing varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs. Not to mention every color in the rainbow represented in display after display for my benefit.
In an attempt to bolster myself for impending withdrawal, I decided a treat was in order – a jar of local blackberry jam and ears fresh corn on the cob. Now all I needed for dinner was to come up with a simple grill sauce for my chicken.
My newly purchased blackberry preserves provided all the inspiration necessary – a simple combination of chili garlic sauce, soy sauce and a drizzle of local honey (of course) would finish off my grilled chicken recipe with spicy sweetness.
Healthy cooking tip . . .
Strike up a conversation with the employees at your farmers market. They have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the fruits and vegetables they grow. As instructed, the corn on the cob seen here was simply washed and grilled in the husk.
“Fresh corn doesn’t need anything more than a quick 15 minute grill, turning every few minutes.”
She was absolutely correct – the corn was amazingly sweet and fragrant. Happy grilling!
