This slender vegetable dip with spicy jalapeño and low-calorie cream cheese turns the typical vegetable platter into a knock-out appetizer.
It’s 5 Ingredient Friday, and I have just the appetizer recipe for you!
If you know the Rimkus family, then you know we’re HUGE football fans. As Seattleites, the Seahawks make an appearance on Mr. Mike’s gigantic television every week while we watch the game with friends.
Since it’s virtually impossible to cheer on our favorite team without supplying appetizers for the crowd, last week I decided to lighten the menu up and kick-off with a spicy vegetable dip.
The inspiration for this 5 ingredient dip came from a co-worker who shared her family’s favorite appetizer – a brick of cream cheese topped with jalapeño jelly and served with crackers.
At the time, it sounded like a crazy combination, but one taste and you couldn’t help but grab another cracker for more. Jen’s appetizer was such a hit that I decided to turn it into a sweet with heat dip for the week’s playoff game.
Our football watching gang is slenderizing after the holidays, so the use of low-fat cream cheese and non-fat plain yogurt lightens up the dish significantly.
This is a fun vegetable dip to share with friends. Just as with Jen’s brick and jelly, the combination of creamy cheese and spicy jalapeño is a real crowd-pleaser!
That’s it for this 5 Ingredient Friday. Be sure to leave a comment with your favorite super-simple recipes. I’d be happy to re-create them and share!
Jalapeno Cream Cheese Vegetable Dip
- 8 ounces low-fat cream cheese, softened
- 6 ounces non-fat plain greek yogurt
- 6 ounces jalapeno jelly
- 1 medium jalapeno pepper, minced
- hot sauce to taste
- Combine cream cheese, yogurt, and jelly with a hand mixer until well blended. Fold in minced jalapeño pepper. Add hot sauce to taste.
- Chill for 30 minutes before serving.
- Note: Thickness of this dip can be dependent on the jelly you use. Some brands turn out a thinner consistency, so start slowly and add until you have the texture you like.

FYI – I’m not a big fan of stand mixers. I don’t like gigantic kitchen appliances on my counter. My KitchenAid Hand Mixer works just fine for me and did great job of mixing up this dip.
