Dark Chocolate Avocado Pudding

March 23, 2012 By Kristi Rimkus 39 Comments

chocolate pudding-2

It’s Friday and I deserve a treat, and a chocolate pudding is just what I’m craving.

After all, I managed to get through the work week with a minimum of disasters, and I’m ready to celebrate the weekend to come.

While this isn’t what I’d consider a low calorie treat, if I’m going to indulge, I can feel better about this chocolaty delight.

The combination of ripe avocado, fat free Greek yogurt, and dark cocoa powder make this chocolate pudding recipe worth trying. Just a quick whirl in the blender and it comes out so creamy that you would never guess it wasn’t cooked on the stove.

Even better, I can feel good my indulgence since it contains a minimum of sugar and a good dose of healthy fat.

Still, it is as high in calories per 1/2 cup serving as ice cream. Most of us can’t fathom eating just 1/2 cup of any dessert, so I split the difference and had 3/4 of a cup. Each bite was worth every calorie.

Happy, healthy cooking!

Ingredients

  • 1 small avocado, seeded
  • ¼ cup fat free Greek Yogurt
  • 1 small banana, over ripe and mashed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, I used Hershey's Special Dark
  • ¼ cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a blender and whip until it has a pudding consistency. I used my magic bullet.

There is a bit of sugar in it, but with the over ripe banana, you really don't need it.

Oh yeah. This sounds like my kind of dessert. I absolutely love avocado anything. Putting it with chocolate doesn't sound "natural" but I bet it's amazing. I'm going to try this soon... maybe in my next protein shake ;-)

It's funny - you really don't taste the avocado. The chocolate really shines through.

wow, totally a treat - I can only imagine how great the taste must be, and I love the banana in there too... don't you think Greek yogurt is the best thing?

I love Greek yogurt, but now I make my own. It's much cheaper. Just buy a good lowfat or nonfat yogurt and strain it overnight in cheesecloth. Easy as pie!

I have all the ingredients on hand, so I think I have to try this! I've been craving a little chocolate lately, so this looks like the perfect antidote :-)

Not all that low in calories, and you could omit the banana or the sugar to reduce the sugar in the recipe. I just had an over ripe banana I needed to use.

Hmm. I certainly love avocados and they are so healthy. I can't quite picture it with chocolate but, then again, I've never tried it. Interesting :)

I was surprised when I was reading the book to see this recipe. Naturally I had to add my own twist to it, but the author only used avocado, chocolate, vanilla and sugar. I wanted a creamier texture. Definitely worth it if you need a chocolate fix.
