I guess the fact that I attended a sushi making class probably isn’t breaking news, but it was definitely entertaining. Especially since I am not a fan of sushi. Raw fish just isn’t my thing, and I’m not big into sheets of seaweed. So how did I end up spreading grains of rice onto seaweed and rolling it up with cucumber and raw salmon?
My husband loves sushi. He bought me a sushi making kit that’s been sitting in the cupboard since Christmas, waiting for me to bite the bullet and learn how to use it. My friend, Debbie, also loves sushi. When she heard about the sushi kit, she thought it would be a great idea to take a class. She was right.
Of the 12 people that attended the class, I think I made the biggest mess. I had sticky rice all over the table, on the floor, and on my sleeves. But I have to admit, I really enjoyed myself. It wasn’t as hard to roll up the sushi as I thought it would be, and I actually liked some of it. You would be proud of me, I even ate raw salmon! Best of all, I had a happy husband when I brought home his plate of sushi.
Will I make it at home? You bet. I’m planning on a sushi making party once we move to our new house. Big kitchen there. Plenty of room for me to make a sticky rice mess!
